Oct. 30, 2016
It’s been twenty-two months since I started this blog. The first four months after mommykay.com was born were very hectic months for me. Almost everyday, I worked on this blog. I had no blogger friends to help me. I had no contacts. I was technologically inept and knew absolutely nothing about SEO (I didn’t even know that such a term exists).
I knew I was starting from nothing. I also knew that I really wanted to share my thoughts. I so wanted to be useful – to help other people by providing useful information based on my own experiences. So I did what I could – I worked my butt off. In four months, I was able to launch my Bangkok Series, Singapore Series, Hong Kong-Macau Series and Metro Manila For Kids Series – all of which were written from the point of view of a mother who travels always with her toddler in tow.
Although I was very happy with how my blog was doing, I went on a complete hiatus after my blog’s first four months of life. Although mommykay.com is practically my baby, having nursed it with my own blood, sweat and tears, I had to let it go because my absolute attention was needed somewhere else.
After a while, my life went back to the way it was. But because I abruptly stopped writing, I felt that I lost my momentum and didn’t really feel like writing again even when I finally had time on my hands. Three months ago, while battling a terrible headache, I decided to distract myself by checking mommykay.com. After about a year of not even logging in, I wasn’t really expecting anything. I knew I probably didn’t have views anymore after neglecting my blog completely for such a long time – especially that I left it alone when it was still in its infancy.
To my utter surprise, I found out that my stats kept on going up despite my absence. And all the comments that you, my dear readers, left for me while I was gone gave me the electric shock that I needed to jumpstart my blog again. For the past three months, I’ve been adding new categories on my blog such as It’s More Fun In The Philippines (that covers our local travels. So many more articles to come under this category, I promise!), Zuri’s OOTDs, Recommended Toys and Books For Children, Health, Shopping, School, Parenting – all things that mommies like me are interested in.
All is well, yes. But you might have noticed that until recently, I had been basking in my solitude, just content to write and reply to your comments, questions or words of encouragement. Never before had I posted anything about any blogger friend or any blogger event. My introverted self was comfortable that way.
It’s been twenty-two months since mommykay.com was born. That’s how long it took me to finally come out of my shell and agree to go out there and meet new people – people who are bloggers like me. All thanks to that one momentous day less than three weeks ago when I accepted the invitation of Ms. Karen Luminario of TravelBook.ph to join their Blogger Affiliate Program.
A few days ago, while my baby Zuri was confined at the hospital, I again received notice via Facebook about TravelBook Philippines Blogger Affiliate Get-Together to be held at The Legend Villas. I knew I had to go. I owe it to myself to take this next step after all the hard work I’ve put into this blog. It’s been twenty-two months. When will I ever be ready to do it, if not now?
So, yesterday morning, I dragged my shy butt to The Legend Villas to attend my first ever blogger event. I went straight to Del Pilar Room where I was greeted by the lovely ladies of TravelBook.ph. I received my first ever blogger loot bag. Woot! I did not know what was inside but I felt like a child who was given a bag full of candies. Excitedly, albeit nervously, I entered the function room where some bloggers were already waiting.
Thankfully, I immediately found a friendly face. I sat right next to Lawrence of www.mrpogitips.com. We didn’t know each other but he made me feel welcome right away. He says he’s been going to blogger events for quite some time but still remembers how it feels for a first-timer like me. He was once like me, too. We were given time to mingle and network before the program officially started. It was nice to get to know other bloggers and to get useful tips from them, too. Thank you, Lawrence, for your many tips! 🙂
When the program started, we each had a chance to introduce ourselves. Then, we played some fun games. I was even the first one to be picked to do a dare – which in my case was to sing. I sang the Alphabet Song. (I’m a mommy blogger, okay? That’s what I do! I sing the Alphabet.)
Then, we played a group game called “Paint The Picture”. This was a fun, very exciting and competitive game! Tickets for two to Climb Central were at stake! My group did not win but I think this game might be the best part of the program because it totally broke the ice! 🙂
A raffle followed immediately after the “Paint The Picture” game so that, to borrow the host’s words, the losers in the previous game can move on right away. They gave away gifts from sponsors to the lucky raffle draw winners (including several vouchers for buffet for two at Lola Maria’s at The Legend Villas). Sayang hindi ako nabunot! Sa dare lang ako nabunot, sa prizes hindi! Haha.
Aside from the fun games, we were also given an overview about TravelBook.ph. TravelBook.ph started as an online hotel catalogue in 2011 under Summit Media. Now, TravelBook.ph is also a hotel booking site under Recruit with 24/7 customer care service, competitive rates, promo plans, reward points and different modes of payment such as Credit Card or Pay at Hotel. They also offer tours and transfers through their call center.
As for their affiliates, TravelBook.ph currently has 825 blogger affiliates for whom they provide earning opportunities, digital marketing trainings, free travel, networking opportunities and insider deals for both bloggers and their readers. To all interested bloggers out there, join the TravelBook Blogger Affiliate Program. Signing up is free!
While the program was on-going, we had free access to unlimited coffee and yummy banana cake. Thank you Legend Villas! 🙂
Ms. Carla Gregorio, Senior Sales Manager of The Legend Villas, also gave us an overview about their group of hotels: The Legend Villas, The Legend Palawan, Kabayan Hotel and Mabuhay Manor.
Towards the end of the program, all of us bloggers were given a tour of The Legend Villas, which I will talk about in another post. Watch out for that! 🙂
For more of The Legend Villas, watch out for my next post coming soon! 🙂
The last part of the TravelBook Philippines Blogger Affiliate Get-Together was the buffet lunch at the Datu Hall right beside the hotel’s swimming pool. The sumptuous lunch was prepared by Lola Maria’s of The Legend Villas.
Thank you Lola Maria’s for preparing these dishes for us! Will definitely be back to have more of these! Can’t wait to experience this again at Lola Maria’s with Daddy Rupert and our baby Zuri! 🙂
Thank you so much to TravelBook.ph, The Legend Villas and to all the sponsors for my first ever official blogger event. This event is nothing short of a milestone for me as a blogger. I’m glad I waited twenty-two months to make my debut as a blogger affiliate. After spending countless hours pondering on my many posts and pages, I know I’m ready now. I’m looking forward to exciting times ahead! To all my fellow TravelBook blogger affiliates, I’m glad I met all of you! 🙂
Are you a starting blogger, too? Just keep it up and enjoy the ride! 🙂
