Seeing our babies learning to read is a very exciting time for us Mommies and Daddies. It is important to remember though that to best help our kiddos, we should be aware of their level of readiness for reading and should give them books that are appropriate for their level.
Here are some of the books that Zuri reads as a beginning reader.
Usborne Very First Reading First Phonics Words
After teaching Zuri how to read simple three-letter words, I bought this book from Powerbooks Trinoma so Zuri would have the satisfaction of being able to read a book all by herself. She was so pleased and proud to know that she could already read a book! 🙂 This book contains simple words in simple phrases with corresponding illustrations. Highly recommended for very young, beginning readers.
Other books in the Usborne Very First Reading series:
Hop on Pop By Dr. Seuss The Simplest Seuss For Youngest Use
On our most recent mother-daughter date, after a lovely lunch of dimsum, noodles, soyed chicken and mango sago at King Chef Dimsum Kitchen, Zuri and I went to National Bookstore at SM North Edsa to buy some books that will keep her busy during the semestral break.
Zuri found this book: Hop on Pop By Dr. Seuss The Simplest Seuss For Youngest Use. It contains short, simple sentences that use simple, easy words.
The Eye Book By Dr. Seuss Big Bright And Early Board Books
Aside from Hop On Pop, we also bought The Eye Book By Dr. Seuss on our most recent mother-daughter date. Again, it’s a simple, easy-to-read book with easy-to-understand illustrations. Highly recommended.
Other books in this series:
Corduroy’s Party By Freeman/McCue
This is also a very simple book with short sentences and clear illustrations. Each sentence uses 5-6 words only. This book is one of Zuri’s early books. I bought it from a Books For Less store when Zuri was just one year old. I got it for PHP 50. Now, Zuri reads this book all by herself.
Hello Kitty Phonics Reading Program Book 2 short e Let’s Help by Lee and Hino
This is a simple, easy-to-read, short story book with cute illustrations of Hello Kitty. It focuses on the short e sound. I bought it for PHP 20 from Divisoria when I was shopping for Zuri’s 1st birthday party. Now, Zuri reads this book all by herself.
Do you have beginning readers, too? Let them try these books. 🙂
Thanks for reading! 🙂
