We stayed at Ipil Suites El Nido for 3 nights during our El Nido vacation on August 24-27, 2016
Five Reasons To Stay At Ipil Suites El Nido:
1. Cleanliness and modern conveniences
We stayed in a standard room on the ground floor. Our room had two comfortable single beds put side by side. The beds had smooth and soft sheets, 4 cozy pillows and 2 warm blankets. Beside the bed was a bedside table with a telephone and two bottles of water. The bottles could be refilled with water for free near the reception desk or at the dining area.
There was a closet inside the room where guests can put their stuff. Aside from the closet, there was also a small table where we put most of our things. Above the small table was a small TV.
The room had both a ceiling fan and air-conditioning. The air conditioner was in good working condition. There was good ambience lighting, too. The glass window that opened up to the street was covered with simple but tasteful curtains.
The ensuite bathroom had hot and cold shower with a shower glass door. The toilet had a bidet shower. Also found in the bathroom was a huge mirror. Basic toiletries were provided free-of-charge.
Everyday, we would go back to our room after a day of touring and would find that our room had been cleaned and the towels and bathroom rug had been replaced with fresh new ones.
The hotel had electricity 24/7. Once during our stay, there was an unannounced townwide brownout due to the rainy weather. During the brownout, the air conditioning unit in our room stopped working but the ceiling fan still worked.
Bonus Feature: There is a nice sitting/foot wash area at the facade of the hotel, very convenient for removing sand from the beach.
Regarding noise: I read some reviews online about the rooms on the ground floor of Ipil Suites El Nido being too permeable to noise. It is true that we could hear the noise coming from the street. Personally, I did not find the noise too loud to cause any real discomfort. We were able to sleep soundly all three nights of our stay.
Regarding smell coming from the kitchen: I also read some reviews online saying that the smell from the kitchen reaches the rooms on the ground floor. Thankfully, we did not experience the same during our stay.
2. Good location
Although Ipil Suites El Nido has no swimming pool, it is just a short two-minute walk to El Nido Town Beach. The El Nido Town Beach is also the boarding area for boat tours and where some good restaurants are located, so it is very convenient to stay close to this beach.
During our stay, we had easy access to both beachfront and non-beachfront restaurants, like Sea Jane Restobar, Altrove Express and Art Cafe, because of the strategic location of Ipil Suites El Nido. There is also a general merchandise store right in front of the hotel.
There was even no need for us to ride a tricycle to go from place to place except to and from the van terminal. Most of the time, we just walked. Ipil Suites El Nido is a short 5-minute tricycle ride to Eulen Joy van terminal.
3. Complimentary buffet breakfast
I must admit I’m a sucker for buffet breakfasts. When faced with a choice between two good hotels, the complimentary buffet breakfast usually seals the deal for me. This is especially true in El Nido, where heavy breakfast is needed to sustain guests through a fun but exhausting tour day.
For three consecutive mornings, we had buffet breakfast at Ipil Suites Garden Restaurant.
Buffet Breakfast Menu Day 1: Sardines in Tomato Sauce, Meat Loaf, Ampalaya (Bitter Melon) with Egg, Rice, Champorado, Tuyo (Dried Fish), Daing (stockfish), Pancakes, Breads, Jams, Fruits, Fruit Juice, Eggs (cooked to guest’s liking)
Buffet Breakfast Menu Day 2: Sauteed Tuna, Corned Beef, Buttered Vegetables, Rice, Arroz Caldo (Rice Porridge), Tuyo (Dried Fish), Daing (stockfish), French Toast, Breads, Jams, Fruits, Fruit Juice, Eggs (cooked to guest’s liking)
Buffet Breakfast Menu Day 3: Spanish Sardines, Vienna Sausage, Fried Eggplant, Rice, Champorado, Tuyo (Dried Fish), Daing (stockfish), Pancakes, Breads, Jams, Fruits, Fruit Juice, Eggs (cooked to guest’s liking)
Note that they changed the main dishes every morning. The champorado was delicious! (My mouth is watering just thinking about it right now!)
The hotel restaurant had comfortably soft dining seats. The restaurant staff was attentive and polite.
4. Superb service
Because it is a budget hotel, I was not expecting much in terms of service but the staff of Ipil Suites El Nido surprised me!
The staff were very helpful, friendly, courteous and always smiling. They would go out of their way to help us with directions and restaurant suggestions. They would always greet us whenever we were around. And they would always welcome us in the afternoon after our tour.
The whole staff of Ipil Suites El Nido showed us warmth – the kind that would make a guest want to come back and stay with them again. 🙂
When I was planning our trip, I had a maximum budget of PHP 8,000 for accommodation for 3 nights. With this budget, I was looking for a clean, modern hotel with good-sized room, air conditioning, nice bathroom, buffet breakfast (emphasis on buffet), as close to the beach and restaurants as possible given the budget, with good reviews and, if possible, with a swimming pool.
Ipil Suites El Nido was able to provide everything I was looking for except for the swimming pool for only PHP 7,275 good for 3 nights booked through Agoda. (Published rate for a standard room is actually PHP 2,500 a night). Good deal, right!? 🙂 Note that TravelBook.ph also offers good deals on accommodation.
From the hotel website:
Side Note: I actually considered booking El Nido Garden Beach Resort because it is beachfront and has a swimming pool but a 3-night stay there would cost more than PHP 8,000. I also considered El Nido Beach Hotel because it is beachfront but, again, a 3-night stay there would cost more than PHP 8,000.
I’m so glad I chose Ipil Suites El Nido instead of these two other options because I saw the beach right in front of El Nido Garden Beach Resort and El Nido Beach Hotel when we were there and it was so disappointing. The water was brown and murky. I wouldn’t even think about swimming in that water.
Bonus Reason To Stay At Ipil Suites El Nido: Good Tour Service and In-Room Massage!
I was hesitant at first to get tour service through Ipil Suites because of not-so-good feedback from friends, particularly about not providing enough food for lunch during the tour. Before booking our tours through Ipil Suites, my husband Rupert called other tour providers to ask about what food they serve during their tours. They all had the same answer, “It depends on what’s available in the market.”
Because no tour provider could give us a definitive answer regarding lunch anyway, we decided to just book through Ipil Suites for convenience. We booked Tour A and Tour C. I’m happy to say our tours went very well. Lunch was delicious! For Tour A, we were served with chicken, mussels, shrimps, fish, vegetables, salad, fruits, rice and water. For Tour C, we were served with the same menu except squids were substituted for the shrimps. I was super full! Food was enough to feed everyone.
The tour service provider of Ipil Suites El Nido during our stay was RR Travel and Tours. Kuya Ven, Kuya Scalaborn and Kuya Dondon took very good care of us during the tours, always ready to aid with our 5-year-old daughter Zuri. They were funny tour guides, too.
If booked through Ipil Suites, guests have the option to use cash or credit card to pay for the tours upon check out. Ipil Suites also provides complimentary use of towels and snorkeling gear to all guests who will book tours with them.
Read more about our tours on my next post. 🙂
After a full day of swimming, the massage service was almost a necessity. Rupert and I enjoyed Ipil Suites’ in-room massage service after coming back from Tour A. Oh wow, my muscles were oh-so-happy! I still remember the relief that washed through my body as the massage therapist rubbed and kneaded my very tired muscles. 🙂
Massage service was only until 9:00 pm and we had to make a prior appointment through the reception desk. Massage rate: PHP 500/hour/person. We paid in cash. 🙂
I highly recommend Ipil Suites El Nido! We had a very enjoyable stay. I’m sure you would, too. 🙂
