The morning after my birthday dinner at Harvest Hotel in Cabanatuan City, Rupert and I woke up early, so we could walk to the nearby Freedom Park for a little bit of Pokemon Go for Rupert. We just left our sleeping Zuri with my siblings who were also staying at the hotel.
Freedom Park is just a short walking distance from Harvest Hotel. From Harvest Hotel, we walked down Del Pilar Street, turned left to Mabini Street, then turned right to Burgos Ave.
As we walked along Burgos Ave, we saw Nueva Ecija High School on the left. Nueva Ecija High School or NEHS is a national high school that is more than a hundred years old. The main building of the school fronting the street has a series of tall arches and big old windows.
Next to NEHS, also on the left side of Burgos Ave (coming from Harvest Hotel), is the old Nueva Ecija Provincial Capitol building.
On the right side of Burgos Ave, across NEHS, is Freedom Park. The first thing that we saw was the monument of General Antonio Luna.
“General Antonio Luna Y Novicio was born in Manila October 28, 1868 to Joaquin Luna and Laureana Novicio. He was educated at the Ateneo Municipal De Manila and the University Of Santo Tomas and later at the University of Barcelona and the Universidad Central De Madrid. A versatile writer and an outstanding military leader, tragic death ended his brilliant career on June 5, 1899 in this town.”
After checking out the monument of Gen. Antonio Luna, Rupert found a spot for his true goal that morning: Pokemon Go. 🙂
While waiting for Rupert, I kept myself busy by going around Freedom Park and taking some photos.
Then, I found these play structures that Zuri would have enjoyed. When she saw these photos, she actually asked me, “Why did you not take me with you, Mommy?”
Then, I even saw a Manong selling ice cream. Hm, maybe I should have woken up Zuri and taken her with us, after all.
From Freedom Park, I could already see the old Provincial Capitol. I would have taken more photos of it as I find the old Capitol building quite lovely, but at that point, I was already in a hurry to walk back to Harvest Hotel to not miss breakfast. 🙂
After checking out of Harvest Hotel that afternoon, we made a quick stop over at the intersection of Mabini Street and Burgos Ave for some more Pokemon Go time. 🙂
After that, we went to The SM Store at SM City Cabanatuan for some sulit shoe shopping. If you want to read about our super sulit shoe finds, click here. 🙂
