Sept. 10, 2016
Our trip to El Nido, Palawan last August 24-27, 2016 was super fun but also very exhausting! So on Aug. 28, the day after we arrived back in Manila, we decided to use Rupert’s Marriott Rewards Points for an overnight stay at Marriott Hotel Manila to get some much needed rest.
Yey! No tours to go to, no snorkeling, no going up and down a boat in the middle of nowhere. Sure, El Nido was great but our bodies were craving to do NOTHING – just pure relaxation.
We arrived at Marriott Hotel Manila shortly before 3:00 in the afternoon. We were promptly served with some refreshments from a Pinoy Coolers stand in the lobby.
Check-in was fast enough. We waited 5 minutes for the person in front of us in the queue to finish transacting with the front desk. Then we waited another 5-10 minutes for our room to be ready. Zuri also received a gift from the front desk crew upon check-in. Yey! 🙂
We got a King Guest Room at Executive level with Executive lounge access. This comes with complimentary continental breakfast, afternoon tea, hors d’oeuvres and late night snacks, complimentary cocktails, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, complimentary business services and complimentary pressing of two garments per night of stay.
The 36 sqm air-conditioned room is equipped with a King-sized bed, a sitting area, a desk, a mini-refrigerator, a coffee maker and a mini-bar, iron and ironing board, a safe and an alarm clock. The room also has a cable TV, a DVD player, an iPod dock, a phone and free Wi-Fi (for members).
The bathroom has marble flooring with a shower, a bathtub with spray jets, a lighted make up mirror and a hair dryer. Robes, slippers and toiletries are provided.
First thing we did was to check out the Executive lounge. Rupert and I helped ourselves to some sandwiches while Zuri had some cake.
Food served at the lounge was just light snacks and we wanted something heavy, so we decided to call room service to order Kare-Kare and chicken noodle soup. We waited 45 minutes till our food arrived.
Portion size was huge! One order of Kare-Kare was enough to feed both Rupert and me (and I’m a hearty eater!). The Kare-Kare sauce was so delicious. The meat was tender. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. The chicken noodle soup was Zuri’s order. It was bland. Zuri did not even finish half of it.
We spent a total of PHP 750 for this meal. Not bad for a 5-star hotel! (I was not able to take a photo of the food because we really wanted to just eat already 🙂 )
By night time, we decided to do a little shopping at Newport Mall which is directly connected to Marriott Hotel Manila. The fact that this hotel is directly connected to a mall is a great feature. It’s so convenient! Newport Mall has a number of clothing and shoe stores, restaurants and cinemas.
After eating light snacks at the lounge, we went back to our room and called room service again to order some food for dinner. We ordered spaghetti and chicken parmigiana. We waited for more than an hour but no food arrived so Rupert called again to follow up. Apparently, our order was not coordinated well with the kitchen. Without waiting for any kind of demand or complaint from Rupert or me, the staff promptly said that because of the mishap, our dinner would be complimentary.
When room service finally arrived, aside from the complimentary spaghetti and chicken parmigiana, we were also served complimentary salad, fruits and 3 glasses of mango shake. Wow, all is forgiven! Despite the little setback, service at Marriott Hotel Manila is still exemplary.
The next morning, we had a satisfying breakfast of pancakes, waffles, cereals, beef tapa, longganisa, eggs and crab and corn soup at the Executive lounge.
After breakfast, we went to the hotel pool area for a quick dip for Zuri. 🙂
We were actually given a go signal to check out at 3:00 pm instead of 12:00 noon so we can enjoy the hotel facilities some more but we had to leave early to attend to another matter. We checked out at the Executive lounge instead of the front desk at the ground floor. Check out was fast and convenient.
